Teen denies $160,000 fraud case

A 19 year-old Smith?s man appeared in Magistrates? Court yesterday for stealing over $160,000. Jonathan Ratteray of Sears Hill Road was charged with three counts relating to fraud.

The defendant allegedly obtained $163,000 under false pretences on three separate occasions from Ernest Barry DeCouto.

Between November 3 and 22, Ratteray allegedly stole $67,500 from the complainant. The second incident occurred between December 1 and 20 where he is charged with stealing $32,000.

The final charge was for stealing $63,000 between January 6 and 27. The defendant was released on $5000 bail with one surety. He will return to court with his lawyer Mark Pettingill on July 19.

Addict remanded on trespassing charge

A Southampton woman pleaded not guilty to two counts of unlawfully entering a dwelling place to feed her drug addiction yesterday in Magistrates? Court.

Marissa Glyn Ratteray, 44 of Whale Bay is charged with unlawfully entering a dwelling place in Pembroke on May 22. The second charge is entering another dwelling place June 20 and stealing $133.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded the defendant in custody until July 3.

Homeless man denies fraud charge

A vagrant appeared in Magistrates? Court yesterday and denied two counts relating to fraud.

Colin Phillip Fubler, 54 of Salvation Army, Pembroke was charged with signing a Butterfield Bank cheque and knowingly uttering the forged cheque on March 13 and 30. Fubler said: ?I went to smoke a joint then the cheque was right in front of me.?

After a lengthy discussion with Crown Counsel Cindy Clark, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry and psychiatric report to assess the defendant.

He will appear before the courts on August 16. Fubler was bailed in the amount of $1000.

Cell phones stolen from East End home

A Stonehaven Road home was burgled on Tuesday with the culprit stealing a computer along with accessories and other personal items.

Police were told that when the victim arrived home around 4 p.m. that day, he discovered the break-in at his Hamilton Parish home. He noticed the culprit had stolen a Dell laptop computer and laptop bag containing computer accessories, two Motorola cellular phone and a grey plastic box with assorted tools. Police are currently investigating the matter.

Tourists robbed on guest property

An American couple were robbed at their Paget guest property late Sunday evening.

The couple told officers that as they walked from a restaurant on the property back to their room, an unknown man grabbed the woman?s purse.

He was able to escape with the small black and grey purse containing a digital camera, $600 US cash and personal items. The couple was unhurt and could not provide officers with a good description of the culprit. Police are currently investigating the matter.

Man had construction equipment

A 56 year old Pembroke man was arrested under the suspicion of theft late Wednesday evening.

Officers found him in the Par-la-Ville Road area with various tools in his possession. The man had a Makita reciprocating saw, a Makita drill, a Milwaukee heat gun, a variety of pliers, wall receptacles and three halogen bulbs.

Video equipment stolen from home

A Devonshire residence was broken into sometime on Wednesday with the culprit stealing jewellery and electronics.

Police spoke to the complainant when they arrived at the Sousa Estate Road home. She informed them that the unknown culprit had stolen several items of jewellery, a Sony 13 inch flat screen TV, a bronze Minolta digital camera, a grey Sony video camera and a black Sony CD player.
