Craig Cannonier was last night chosen as the first leader of the Bermuda Democratic Alliance.

More than 300 people turned up as the BDA hosted its first party conference.

In a vote of 157 to 38, Mr. Cannonier defeated leadership rival Myron Piper.

Deputy Leader Kathy Michelmore ran uncontested for the post, and was appointed last night and Michael Fahy was appointed as party chairman after Granville Gibbons withdrew his nomination in support of Mr. Fahy.
