MP Darius Tucker has quit the United Bermuda Party. The Royal Gazette understands Mr. Tucker resigned today, five days after going against a three line whip and failing to vote in a motion of no confidence against Premier Ewart Brown’s Government. He was suspended from the Shadow Cabinet yesterday.Mr. Tucker, who represents Hamilton South, will now sit as an Independent MP, relinquishing his role as Shadow Minister for sports, youth and recreation.
Mark Byrne has resigned as chairman of the Board of Education just over a year after taking the role.
PricewaterhouseCoopers Bermuda managing partner Darren Johnston will be his replacement.
The announcement came this afternoon with Minister of Education El James saying: “I have reluctantly accepted Mr. Byrne’s resignation from the Board of Education. When I first approached Mr. Byrne about taking on the role of chairman, he expressed some reluctance, given his hectic schedule and demanding work commitments. However, I truly believe that under his leadership the board’s decision to adopt the Cambridge International Curriculum will have a long lasting impact on public education in Bermuda.”
