Breaking News: Foreign nationals jailed one year for criminal proceeds offences
Two foreigners who were accused of a large-scale drug trafficking plot have been sentenced to one year in jail each, after admitting to lesser charges.
Andrew “Steve” Blatchley, 58, of Charleston, South Carolina, pleaded guilty in Supreme Court this week, to money laundering the proceeds from drug trafficking.
Peter Sagos, 36, from Ottawa, Canada, pleaded guilty last week to possessing the proceeds of criminal conduct.
Both men denied conspiring to import cannabis into the Island between a date unknown and September 23 of last year.
As well as handing out the jail terms this morning, Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons issued a confiscation order relating to large amounts of cash involved with the case and a 36-foot boat, Bomba Shack, that Blatchley sailed into Bermuda.
