Breaking News: Government mulls idea of tighter Police bail restrictions

Government is mulling the idea of tighter Police bail restrictions on those arrested for serious crimes, to stop them fleeing overseas.

It’s also considering sending incarcerated criminals abroad for a tougher jail experience, it was announced this afternoon.

Updating the public after Cabinet met to discuss the weekend’s gun violence, Premier Ewart Brown said the option of reconvening Parliament to pass new anti-violence legislation has not been ruled out.

However, the option has not been decided upon yet.

Meanwhile, he said current legislation is being reviewed to see if it is effective against those accused of gun crimes, and “whether we’re prosecuting to the fullest extent of the existing laws”.

The Easter weekend was marred by violence when Kimwandae Walker, 35, was shot dead in front of his children as he flew kites with them at Victor Scott Primary school in Pembroke on Friday.

On Saturday night, one teenage boy was shot and another was stabbed during a large fight in the Royal Artillery Association (RAA) club in St. George’s.

Late on Sunday, a 17-year-old girl and 39-year-old Antoine Tuzo were gunned down at the Western Stars Sports Club in Pembroke.

Dr. Brown said the Police have been working very hard over the last four or five days. Hinting that court charges relating to the violence may be in the pipeline, he said: “I anticipate that you will see evidence very soon of their work.”
