Breaking News: Jury unable to reach verdict in murder trial
A Supreme Court jury in the trial of a teenager accused of the murder of 19-year-old Kellon Hill was this evening unable to reach a verdict after deliberating since 11.30 a.m. today.
The jury returned just before 7 p.m. to tell the judge that they had been unable to reach a verdict on a charge of murder against 17-year-old Kellan Lewis.
Lewis was the only defendant out of the original five charged with murder to remain on trial.
The others – Kevin Warner, 19, Zharrin Simmons, 17, Gary Hollis, 16, and Devon Hairston, 18 — were also alleged by prosecutors to have been part of a fight that resulted in Mr. Hill’s death.
But they were cleared of the charges by Judge Charles-Etta Simmons at the close of the prosecution case on the basis that they had no case to answer based on the evidence.
