Breaking News: St. David's MP blasts 'cowardly' shooters

Government chief whip Lovitta Foggo has denounced the "cowardly" double shooting in her constituency which has left a man and a woman in intensive care.

The attack against a 26-year-old man from Pembroke and a 24-year-old woman from Warwick happened shortly before 11.30 p.m last night outside the Southside Cinema in St. David’s.

Ms Foggo, PLP MP for St. David’s, told The Royal Gazette: "I wish to express my grave concern and alarm regarding the shooting which occurred in the environs of the cinema in St. David’s.

"This heinous, malicious, and, in my opinion, cowardly act could well have resulted in greater numbers being injured and even killed given the location.

"Such an act of violence necessitates and demands the collective efforts of the community and the police to work tirelessly to quell this type of criminal activity."

The politician called on her constituents to have zero tolerance for such violence. "I hope the residents, if anyone is able to, will respond with much haste to provide any pertinent information regarding this awful circumstance," she said.

"Bermudians island wide must stand firm and fight such pernicious acts which threaten to permanently change our reputation for being a friendly and tranquil haven.

"The community of St. David’s is known to be peaceful and its residents insist on it retaining its reputation.

"We as citizens must each be willing to fervently combat these violent trends by stepping to the plate when necessary."

Police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting and are appealing for witness to contact Acting Chief Inspector Michael Redfern at the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011.
