Sandra York, 42, of Berkeley Road, is alleged to have been found in possession of the cocaine and also drug paraphernalia on March 18.

$300 fine for marijuana cigarette

A Pembroke man was fined $300 yesterday after he admitted to being in possession of cannabis.

Brandon Rogers, 52, of King Street, pleaded guilty to possession of the controlled drug on the April 12 of this year.

The court heard Rogers was driving a green Mitsubishi car by Blue Hole Hill when he saw Police officers. He immediately buckled his seatbelt and put what appeared to be a cigarette away.

Police pulled him over and noticed that he tried to hide something under the seat. Officers searched the vehicle and everyone inside the car under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1972.

The officers found what appeared to be plant-like material in a brown twist which was partially burnt. When Government analysts examined the twist they found that it was 0.50 grams of the controlled drug cannabis.

Magistrate Warner gave Rogers until September 9 to pay the fine.

Trespasser was on a bathroom break

A homeless man was given a suspended sentence in Magistrates? Court on Tuesday after he admitted to trespassing on Elbow Beach?s private property.

Thomas Norton, 54, of no fixed abode, was spotted near The Deep night club at Elbow Beach at 6.35 p.m. on Monday by a security guard.

The court heard that the security guard had warned Norton numerous times not to come on the property. When stopped by the guard, Norton pulled out a metal object and said that he would hurt him.

The security guard called the Police and Norton was arrested. He told Police he had simply used the toilet.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner told Norton that he had given him a discharge a few months ago for trespassing on Newstead property and again some time later for going onto someone?s private property.

Mr. Warner shook his head and asked Norton whether or not he had seen the ?no trespassing? signs. Norton said he had, but insisted that the toilet was a public toilet, adding: ?I?ve always used this toilet.?

He denied threatening the security guard, whom he claimed had chased him in a car and almost knocked him down. ?I just pulled the blunt object out and told him he could have hit me,? he said.

Mr. Warner handed down a sentence of three months in prison ? suspended for 12 months.

Dangerous car chase ends in fines

A dangerous Police chase through the streets of Hamilton earned a St. David?s man a $600 fine in Magistrates? Court on Tuesday.

Buford Smith pleaded guilty to driving in a manner considered dangerous, driving with a defective headlight and to failing to stop for Police.

The court heard that at 1.13 a.m. on July 31, Police noticed a car travelling along Serpentine Road with a defective headlight.

Police followed and Smith sped up, but eventually stopped outside the Esso Garage.

When Police identified themselves, Smith sped off. Smith led Police on a wild goose chase through Hamilton, nearly hitting several pedestrians and other vehicles.

Smith told the court he was ?afraid of Police? and that was why he had driven away.

Police caught up with Smith at Albouy?s Point where they saw him throw something into the water. The item was never retrieved, however.

For obstructing Police, Smith was fined $300 or 30 days default, but for failing to stop he was convicted, but not given a separate penalty. For driving with a defective headlight he was fined $100 or ten days default and for driving in a manner considered dangerous he was fined $600 or 60 days default and disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months. All of the fines are to be paid by September 9.

Smith will also be tried on November 1 for stealing a bottle of Max-Mara perfume valued at $88. He was released on $1,000 bail.
