Dolphinobjectorsdeluge SPCA
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has been bombarded with e-mails from members and the general public objecting to plans to build another dolphin park.
Shelter manager Theresa Ince said yesterday the SPCA had received around 50 e-mails so far, but was not sure if all of them were getting through.
"I've not seen one yet that is for it," Mrs. Ince said, "We did have a report that some of them had bounced back".
On Wednesday, SPCA shelter chairman, Dr. Andrew Madeiros appealed to the public to comment on the controversial Dolphin Oasis facility at Sinky Bay, Southampton.
The SPCA is printing off all of the responses in order to include them in the response to the Dolphin Oasis appeal, which owners Martin and Lynn Hassell collated after the Development Applications Board refused them planning permission.
Dr. Madeiros said he hoped he would get all of the responses by Monday, February 21, as their response must be submitted to the Planning Department by Wednesday, February 23.
Mrs. Ince said she was printing off every single e-mail they receive about Dolphin Oasis to add to their response.
She said some of the responses were from members of the public and others were from SPCA members.
"Some say they are against the capturing of dolphins," she said. "A lot are concerned about Dolphin Oasis and that the same thing will happen at the new place. A lot are concerned about the environment and the impact Dolphin Oasis will have on the South Shore, with the dredging."
Mrs. Ince said everyone at the SPCA animal shelter has a very busy day yesterday because of the constant flow of negative comments about Dolphin Oasis.
"Whether we get five or 500, we are getting an indication about how the public feel about the new dolphin park," Dr. Ince said. "By Monday we will have a percentage to include in our submission."
