Drunk drivers fined, banned from roads
A number of drunk drivers were fined $1,000 and banned from driving all vehicles for 12 months after pleading guilty to impaired driving in Magistrates? Court on Tuesday.
Stefan Gerhard Metschnabel, 21, of Oceanside Road, Southampton drove through a speed trap on Crow Lane, Paget at 12.43 a.m. on Saturday, January 15.
But when Police stopped him for speeding they discovered he had been drinking.
Metschnabel?s lowest breathalyser reading was 148 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered him to pay $190 for speeding at 55 kph on Crow Lane, and another $225 in unpaid fines.
Garfield Sinclair Teal, 55, of Trimingham Hill, Paget was caught driving with nearly three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood on North Shore Road, Pembroke.
Crown counsel Paula Tyndale said Police responded to a road traffic accident at 8.25 p.m. on January 17 when they found Teal near his damaged Honda motorcycle.
His breathalyser reading was 238 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Kenneth Butterfield, 38, of Scott?s Hill Road, Sandys, was spotted by Police driving his car in an erratic manner just after 3 a.m. on February 17.
Ms Tyndale said Butterfield?s nearly reversed into the Police car after they stopped him.
Police noticed his breath smelled of intoxicants, his eyes were glazed, he was unsteady on his feet and he was salivating heavily.
His breathalyser reading was 159 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
A 60-year-old woman faces a Supreme Court trial after allegedly importing and possessing cannabis with intent to supply in St. George?s on January 5.
Priscilla Delores Williams, of Bulkhead Drive, Warwick, did not have to plea in Magistrates? Court because the charge must be dealt with in Supreme Court.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner granted Williams bail of $5,000 with one surety to reappear for mention on March 23.
