Eyewitness tells of fatal collision
A bus passenger yesterday described the gruesome aftermath of a head-on collision that claimed the life of the Island?s 12th official road traffic fatality of 2005.
The bus passenger ? who did not want to be named ? said she was badly shaken up for days after being caught up in the collision that caused the death of roofer Alex Wright, 36, of Grimsby, England on Friday.
?I thought it was a movie,? she said. ?I felt a thump and said ?What?s that???
The passenger said she did not see the bike hit the bus.
?Everybody got off the bus,? she said. ?People started screaming, ?Someone hit the bus?. That?s when I saw him lying down with a big gash in his leg. They put an ice pack on his leg. He had all sorts of things wrong with him. When he fell off his bike you could see him laying there. They said he had head injuries as well. This guy there, he couldn?t take it and he cried. It was ugly to see.
?The bus was coming down the road towards St. George?s,? she said. ?I didn?t see the bike at all.?
Two visiting nurses being taken back to thecruise ship in St. George?s ran to Mr. Wright?s aid.
?They said, ?we never thought we would have to run to someone like that?,? she said.
She said a Police car was also behind the bus and supplied the nurses with some first-aid supplies until an ambulance arrived.
Meanwhile, Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses of the fatal road traffic collision.
?We are especially interested in speaking with any motorists that were travelling west on Kindley Field Road around the time of the collision,? a spokesman said.
Any witnesses were asked to contact P.c. Joseph on 295-0011.
