Mount St. Agnes Academy will have its first sports field in its 112 year history thanks to funding from the Bank of Bermuda.

Sister Judith Rollo, the MSA principal, said the school will now have its own "field of dreams" when the facility opens next September.

Following an extensive application process with the Bank of Bermuda Foundation, the school gained financial backing to purchase the Cedar Avenue site last year, which included the acquisition of Woodmount Nursery School.

However, to create the field a large amount of excavation and construction is necessary, so Bank of Bermuda Foundation "pledged considerable funding" to assist MSA with the project.

MSA Board of Governors Chairman, Kim White, said that the school has been serving the community "almost as long as the Bank of Bermuda''. In all that time, the school did not have a field.

"On behalf of our students, both present and yet to come, we thank the Bank of Bermuda Foundation for affording us the opportunity to partner with them in offering a high standard of educational facilities to Bermuda's students," he said.

And Bank of Bermuda Foundation's Education Board Chairman, Dennis Tucker, said the foundation was "committed" to education.

"We are very pleased to be able to work with MSA and support their efforts to provide young people in the school a well-rounded education, which develops the whole person and encourages healthy outdoor activities," he added.
