Heartless thief hits Red Cross office

A thief made off with a cash bag full of charity donations from The Bermuda Red Cross office on Tuesday morning.

Director Ann Spencer-Arscott said she was busy helping empty cash buckets from a colleague?s car when someone came out of the front door of their Berry Hill Road headquarters.

She said: ?I asked where he came from and what he wanted. He claimed to want the Marine and Ports office and asked for directions.

?When we got back into the office, we noticed the Butterfield Bank bag was missing.

?We searched the office and then I walked towards Rance?s Boat yard checking the bushes because the bank bag was locked.?

However the bag was gone.

?Fortunately there were only deposit books, deposit slips and some foreign coins amounting to no more than $4,? Mrs. Spencer-Arscott said.

?The Police were called immediately and we started advising our various tenants on the property.?

The man was also seen snooping around the front desk of a real estate firm.

?No one was hurt and fortunately no money is gone. We would like our bank bag back because it does contain deposit information for our records,? said Mrs. Spencer-Arscott.

?From an accountancy point of view, it will be bedlam trying to reconcile information from deposits and donations.?

Mrs. Spencer-Arscott appealed for anyone who finds a Butterfield Bank bag with the Bermuda Red Cross name on it to return it to the Berry Hill Road office.
