MONEY will be at stake next week in the second round of the Digicel Cup with the announcement this week that the first place team in Bermuda’s group will not only gain a place in the finals, but will be $120 000 richer as well. Faye Gill, Digicel’s head of marketing, said the company’s increased investment in the tournament had facilitated its new expanded format, which had for the first time allowed preliminary group winners to take home prize money. The second-placed team will receive $70 000, while $50 000 goes to the team finishing third, and $30 000 to the fourth-placed team. The top two teams will advance to the finals in Trinidad next year, while the team finishing third enters a triangular play-off with the third-placed teams from the other two groups for the remaining finals spot.
