Let the Sunshine in at new-look home!

THE Sunshine League Children's Home, a registered charity and operator of a residential care facility for displaced children between the ages of eight and 16 years, will be having an Open House on Thursday, June 12 to show off the home's new look,

Located at 27 King Street in Hamilton, the organisation has been helping children in need for the last 89 years and the home has recently undergone renovations thanks to generous donations from the public and the local business community.

The Open House will be open to all members of the public.

Denise Carey, executive director for The Sunshine League Children's Home felt it was time to reconnect with the public and also showcase the changes that have been made to the residence.

"We want to use this opportunity to thank the community for volunteering their time, resources, and creativity and also thank our donors for supporting our initiatives," she said.

Ms Carey added that this year the Sunshine League was working on several very personal projects, including sending two children and staff to Guatemala with Bermuda Overseas Missions to build homes for families, securing funds for a part-time therapist for the children and assisting a young lady who is ageing out of the foster care system by locating and securing an apartment for her and helping her earn her GED.

"It might be impossible for some, but this child is determined. We know she can do it!" she added.

The Open House takes place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and light refreshments will be served. Free shuttle service leaving from City Hall carpark every 15 minutes starting at 10 a.m. will be available for individuals and groups. Ms Carey asks that those that are interested in the shuttle to please call to reserve a spot.
