A man with horrific machete-inflicted injuries has been flown off the Island for treatment in the US after he was the victim of an alleged daylight assault in Hamilton at the weekend.
Police have confirmed that a suspect has now been arrested in connection with the incident following an overnight manhunt.
A 33-year-old Paget man was badly injured in the incident which happened near the junction of Court Street and Angle Street on Saturday at 5.30 p.m.
The victim received machete cuts to his hands, forearms and head and was taken in a car to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by a Good Samaritan member of the public. Police arrived at the scene and were unable to find the assailant but began an Island-wide search for a 37-year-old Pembroke man who was identified as a suspect.
Because of the potential danger to the public, Police acted swiftly to apprehend the alleged assailant and swooped on a residence at WB?s Way, just off The Crawl, in Hamilton Parish, yesterday at 12.35 p.m. where a 37-year-old Pembroke man was arrested.
?We heard reports that the individual was in a variety of places on the Island. Several officers were involved in the apprehension of the suspect,? said a Police spokesman. The identity of the arrested man has not been made public at this stage, but the man is known to the Police.
