Man denies weapons charges

A young man denied possessing an array of illegal weapons when he appeared at Supreme Court yesterday.

Siergio Drover Perinchief, 22, of Dudley Hill, Paget, is said to have possessed an air pistol that was a replica of an AK47 assault rifle on October 10 last year. He is further accused of possessing a pipe sling shot and a commercially manufactured catapult on the same date.

Perinchief pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was ordered by Puisne Justice Carlisle Greaves to appear before the court again on March 3. He was granted bail until then.

Markus Joerg Staebler pleaded guilty to stealing around $24,000 from Surfside Beach Club. The seven charges against him state that he perpetrated the theft in his capacity as a clerk or servant of Bermuda Resort Hotels.

Staebler, 39, of Paddock Road, Warwick, will remain in custody until he is sentenced on February 2. Director of Public Prosecutions Rory Field agreed that two other counts of theft – to which Staebler had previously pleaded not guilty – will lie on file.

In a separate matter, Kevin Shiell, 25, is accused of importing cannabis on January 4 2007 and possessing the drug with intent to supply on the same date. Shiell, of Sommersall Road, Smith's, was bailed until his trial on April 7.

Two men also appeared before the court to deny involvement in drug running. Raynol Shane Todd, 51, and Andre Phillip Hill, 53, both pleaded not guilty to conspiring together and with others to import cocaine to Bermuda prior to December 23 2004. Hill alone is accused of handling cocaine on Christmas Eve 2004 with intent to supply it. He denies the charge. Todd alone is accused of conspiring to import cannabis and possessing a digital scale for the misuse of drugs on Christmas Day 2004. He denies this. Their trial was set for May 5.
