MPs to get first look at reports
MPs return to work today with a full schedule of orders including the Annual Report of the Police Complaints Authority for October, 2002 to May, 2003.
There will also be a second reading of the 'Occupational Safety and Health Amendment Act 2005' by Minister of Health and Family Services Patrice Minors and the second reading of 'The Court of Appeal Amendment Act 2004' presented by Opposition House Leader John Barritt.
Consideration of draft regulations entitled 'The Insurance Returns and Solvency Amendment Regulations, 2005' will be delivered by Finance Minister Paula Cox who will also present draft regulations of 'The Insurance Accounts Amendment Regulations 2005' for consideration.
Ms Minors is also set to move a take-note motion of the Financial Assistance Amendment (No. 2) Regulations of 2004.
Also tabled will be the 2004 annual report for the West End Development Corporation, a committee report entitled 'Women in Sport' and the Commission for Unity and Racial Equality's annual report for 2003.
Minister of Community Affairs and Sport Dale Butler will present the report 'Musicians and the Entertainment Industry in Bermuda' which was prepared by Stuart Hayward.
Shadow Minister of Race Relations and Economic Opportunity David Dodwell will discuss developing a legislative scheme for economic empowerment.
Opposition Leader Grant Gibbons will ask the House to take note of the anti-corruption legislation of other jurisdictions, in particular, The Corruption Prevention Act of Jamaica, and consider the benefits of enacting similar legislation for Bermuda.
The Shadow Minister of Health and Family Services, Michael Dunkley, will ask the House to take note of the need to implement legislation to prohibit smoking in public places and to prohibit the sale or supply of tobacco to persons under the age of 18.
Shadow Housing Minister Wayne Furbert will ask the House to take note of the deterioration in the quality of life for Bermudians under the Government, especially in the areas of crime, housing and employment.
The Shadow Minister of Youth and Sport, Jon Brunson, will move that the House take note of the vital need for a National Sports Agenda to develop a vision and enhance support for sport in Bermuda.
