New stamps on sale today
A set of new stamps will be released today.
?The Heritage ? Made in Bermuda? commemorative stamp issue is the third in a series showcasing the talents of local Bermudian artists and craftsmen.
The series consists of four stamps and an official first day cover and represent the following:
(35 cents): This stamp features a paper mach? fish and coral by local artist Janet Percy. Traditionally, the preferred materials have included newspaper and flour-and-water paste. Today, local artists have taken this craft to a new and more finely detailed level, with the creative use of different types of paper, paste and other materials such as wire and wood.
(70 cents): This stamp features Gombey decoupages by local artist Shirley Tuzo, a specialist in dimensional decoupage art. Her Gombey decoupages were created by sculpting pictures from paper using special tools. The process requires a great deal of visual concentration that allows Ms Tuzo to form one sculptured picture from five prints of a similar likeness.
(80 cents): This stamp features the work of stained glass artist Vivienne Gardner. Her stained glass window displays are displayed above the altar of St. Paul?s Church in Paget. Each window depicts various religious stories from the Bible.
($1.25): This stamp features the work of local artist Jacqueline Lohan. Her Y-necklace and earrings were created out of sterling silver, cultured pearls and faceted garnets. The toggle was fabricated from sterling silver wire soldered together, then sanded and hand polished with tripoli and rouge. Once the toggle is finished, pearls and other semi-precious stones were threaded into the design.
