No response on BLDC?s Southside cottages
The Opposition has voiced concerns over 11 cottages which they say have been sitting empty for more than eight months on Tommy Fox Road, Southside.
At the end of last month The Bermuda Land Development Company indicated they were set to begin selling the 11 three-bedroom cottages at Southside within the next two weeks.
BLDC said they would take out press adverts indicating the prices ? which have been previously touted in the $750,000 or $810,000 price range with the eleventh cottage expected to be in the $1 million price-range.
A BLDC source at that time said more than 100 people had been interested in buying the renovated ex-service homes. Profits were to be used to fund further capital projects.
However the Opposition are frustrated nothing is happening.
United Bermuda Party Housing spokesman Kim Swan said: "These houses were originally built by the Bermuda Land Development Company for resale and yet they remain vacant.
"This disclosure is particularly frustrating for the large numbers of Bermudians desperately seeking a safe and affordable place to live."
St. David's MP Suzanne Roberts-Holshouser said: "It is appalling the PLP Government would allow this situation to occur when there is a housing crisis in Bermuda.
"I know of multiple families forced to live in cramped conditions under the same roof, when Government has numerous properties sitting empty and unused.
"We understand it takes time to build and renovate houses, but when they are completed we need to move promptly to have them occupied." gave Works and Engineering and Housing Minister David Burch the opportunity to respond last week but there was still no response at press time last night.
