Plan to build 55 units at Coco Reef

Chairman of Coco Reef Resorts John Jefferis wants to build 55 condos in two eight-storey buildings on the tennis courts of Coco Reef.

This would be an expansion of a 2004 plan for 31 additional units at numbers 3 and 7, Stonington Circle, Paget, which were approved for in-principle Planning permission by the Development Applications Board (DAB).

?At this time Coco Reef has in-principle approval from the Department of Planning for significant development on the Coco Reef Resort site,? Mr. Jefferis said yesterday. ?These plans are currently being reviewed to ensure that the best utilisation of the site is achieved.

?No new plans have yet been submitted for further review by Planning and other relevant authorities.

?As such it would be premature to comment further at this time, other than to say that we are extremely pleased with the dramatic improvement in business this year, resulting from the innovative initiatives put in place by the Bermuda Department of Tourism.?

John Gardner of Cooper & Gardner architects told Planning on February 6, 2004: ?The proposal is to build a Tourist Club in the form of leaseback and/or fractional ownership units,? he said.

According to the 1992 Bermuda Plan there is no maximum storey height for buildings on Tourism Zoned land.
