Police seek witnesses as accident victim improves

The 21-year-old Devonshire woman injured in Friday night?s horrific accident on Marsh Folly Road is said to be in a stable condition at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. A hospital spokesperson said Damika Gibbons was still on life support in the intensive care unit, but was doing considerably better. Meanwhile, Police have appealed to any witnesses to the accident to come forward.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said Police were especially interested in talking to a woman who was travelling east on a motorcycle and had been one of the first people to stop and help.

Mr. Caines said Police believed Miss Gibbons? car had overtaken this woman shortly before the accident took place at about 11 p.m on Friday night near the old Pembroke dump. He said Police were also appealing to the men who helped move the vehicle to come forward. Miss Gibbons had been travelling east on March Folly Road, near Dutton Avenue, when she apparently lost control of the vehicle which broke through a wooden railing and tumbled almost 70 feet down an embankment into Pembroke Marsh. Dana Lovell of the Bermuda Fire Service yesterday could not confirm whether Miss Gibbons was wearing a seatbelt. Rescue crews had to scale the embankment twice ? first to tend to the victim and then to carry her up to the waiting ambulance. Anyone with information has been asked to contact P.c. Christine Mullings on 299-4302 or 295-0011.
