Policeman taken for a ride
A Policeman was taken for a ride on the front of a stolen motorcycle through Middletown on Monday after a drug-carrying suspect tried to flee.
Police were on mobile patrol at 10 a.m. on Monday in the area of Middletown Lane and King Street when they saw a 38-year-old Pembroke man riding a motorcycle acting in a suspicious manner.
After the suspect was stopped by Police, a violent struggle took place and the suspect rode off with the officer on the front of the motorcycle.
Eventually both men and the motorcycle fell to the ground, where the suspect continued to struggle.
Assistance was called for and additional Police quickly arrived on the scene to arrest the suspect.
“The Pembroke man was taken to Hamilton Police Station, then King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after complaining of pain to his ribs,” it said.
“However, at the hospital he declined medical treatment.”
The officer sustained injuries to his knees, hands and elbows. Inquiries are underway.
Pedestrian injured in collision with car
An early morning walker was in the Intensive Care Unit after he was in collision with a car as he tried to cross South Shore Road on Monday.
A spokesperson from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital said yesterday that the 49-year-old Warwick man was in a stable condition.
Police said the collision took place shortly after 8 a.m. near the junction of Warwick Lane near Astwood Park.
“It appears (a white Volkswagen) was travelling east on South Road and the pedestrian attempted to cross the road and was struck by the car,” Police said.
Police said the car's front windscreen and driver's side door was damaged.
The 32-year-old driver, from Sandys, was uninjured.
