Probe launched as pair suspended from Cadet Corps

Top-level investigations have been launched into the Bermuda Cadet Corps after two people were suspended.

A Police probe is underway after a Cadet Corps officer was suspended from duty last Friday.

And a Bermuda Regiment internal inquiry has started after a full-time Regiment employee ? assigned to the Cadet Corps ? was also suspended on the same day.

Confirmation of the two suspensions came last night in a brief statement from the Ministry of Labour, Home Affairs and Public Safety.

No details were released about the reasons for the suspensions, and no information was provided about whether the two incidents were linked or what allegations were being investigated.

A Regiment spokesman last night said he could not give further information because he did not want to compromise the investigations.

But he said the Regiment had taken steps to ensure that the expectations of parents enrolling their children in cadet camp were met.

The spokesman declined to say whether the suspensions were linked to this year?s two-week camp, currently in its final week. Cadets aged between 12 and 17 perform a series of training exercises during the fortnight, including firing, drills and other military skills.
