Scott tours areas hit hard by hurricane

Premier Alex Scott has toured parts of the Cayman Islands that were left devastated by Hurricane Ivan.

He saw at first hand work carried out by soldiers from the Bermuda Regiment, who travelled to the country in the wake of the 2004 disaster to help bolster the relief effort.

As part of his visit to the Cayman Islands, Mr. Scott (pictured) also toured two schools and the Islands? airport yesterday.

On his visit to Prospect Primary School, the Premier said he was ?overwhelmed? by the level of preparation by teachers ? and was even more impressed by their dedication.

?They have clearly looked at this visit as a learning opportunity for their students,? added Mr. Scott, who was quizzed by pupils aged four to nine, keen to learn more about Bermuda.

?As has been evidenced by the questions received and displays seen about Bermuda, the entire student body has been engaged. There is much I can share from my visit to this school. The principal and I spoke of mirroring opportunities for their school and ours.

?There are a number of innovative programmes here and I will gladly share this information with our Minister of Education.?

After calling at a high school, the Premier met Acting Governor George McCarthy, before getting the low down on airport operations with Cayman Tourism Minister Charles Clifford.

The Premier is expected to leave the Cayman Islands today.
