The Department of Tourism is reviewing its current advertising campaign.

Agencies invited to bid on the Bermuda advertising account are expected to send in submissions within the next ten days.

Tourism Minister Ewart Brown revealed the news at a media lunch on Monday.

The Department of Tourism currently employs the services of US advertising agency, Arnold World Wide.

Dr. Brown said following the most recent meeting with the Hotel Association and the Bermuda Alliance for Tourism (BAT), the two organisations would be participating in this review process.

However, the president of the Bermuda Hotel Association, Mike Winfield, on Tuesday said the hotel association had been asked to participate, but no decision had yet been made. Dr. Brown told the media that the Department was taking the necessary steps to enhance the hotel product and address perceived marketing deficiencies.

As such it would continue to take aggressive steps to boost the Island's excursion and entertainment product.

With this in mind, Dr. Brown appointed advertising consultant Don Coleman in January this year.

Mr. Coleman owns a multi-million dollar advertising agency, Don Coleman Advertising, which is consistently ranked as one of the nation's largest black owned advertising agencies. In 2002, Mr. Coleman joined forces with Hispanic agency, Montemayor y Asociados and Asian agency, Innovasia Communications to form GlobalHue Advertising.

As president and chief executive office of GlobalHue, Mr. Coleman runs the largest minority-owned full service marketing communications agency.

Some in the industry believe GlobalHue is a top contender for the Department of Tourism's $10 million advertising contract.
