Vehicle licence fees set to increase

Government Senator Walter Roban introduced the Motor Car Amendment Act 2006, saying Government would increase vehicle licence fees by five percent across the board. ?This increase accompanies great strides of efficiency at TCD transforming the experience into one of minimal grief,? Sen. Roban said yesterday.

The Auxiliary Bicycles Amendment Act 2006 was also passed, increasing licence costs of cycles less then 50cc by five percent.

A message was sent to Governor Sir John Vereker to rubber stamp the Contributory Pensions (Amendment of Contributions and Benefits) Order 2006, which was passed by the Senate yesterday.

The Order will pay out an extra $14 to $31.77 per month to seniors from August.

And three Health Insurance Amendment Regulations 2006 were passed to pay for extra services at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH).

Government had increased Standard Premium Health Insurance to $160.70, an increase from $136.24 in 2005, Sen. Raymond Tannock said.

Health Insurance Deductions and Standard Hospital Benefit will also increase, Sen. Tannock said. This will be used to perform intravenous therapy for patients with chronic arthritis, haemophilia, lupus and multiple sclerosis.

And hospital fees went up by six percent after the Bermuda Hospitals Board (Hospitals Fees) Regulations 2006 was also passed.
