Woman fined after dog attacks pedestrian
A woman whose dog attacked a pedestrian was ordered to pay compensation and a $500 fine.
A female was walking her dog along Mount Hill, Pembroke, on January 6 when Heather Henderson?s German Shepherd ran onto the sidewalk. The court heard that the large dog then began to circle the pedestrian and her smaller dog.
The woman lifted her dog to get it out of harms way and was then bitten in the thigh by the German Shepherd.
Henderson pleaded guilty to the offence and said it was not in her dog?s nature to bite people.
She added that her house was under construction at the time and unbeknownst to her family the electrical fence to keep her dog in their property, had been severed during the construction.
She said her family has taken precautions since the incident, they have strengthened the voltage on the electric fence and kept her dog inside the house when family members are not home.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered her to pay a fine of $500 and compensation.
