$1,000 for assaulting officer
A 22-year-old Pembroke man appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday for using offensive words and resisting arrest.
The court heard from principal Crown counsel Michael McColm that last Thursday, Police attended a disturbance outside the Swinging Doors bar and saw Ahijah Dill running away from the scene with no shirt on.
They caught him and cautioned him for being inappropriately dressed.
Dill raised his middle finger and began shouting at Police saying: "I ain't done f**ks, I ain't f***ing going nowhere! F**k you, f**k the man!"
Police then attempted to put him in handcuffs and a scuffle ensued. Dill struck one of the officers in the back of the head screaming: "You guys ain't taking me no where, F**k you!"
He was eventually arrested and taken to Hamilton Police station.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked Dill if he had anything to say in the matter and he said: "I was just in a dispute and I was drinking. The Police didn't read me my rights they just arrested me with no explanation because they knew me. Your honour, I have been staying out of trouble and am getting myself together. I even have a job interview coming up. The Police provoked me."
He was fined $1,000 for assaulting the officer and raising his middle finger and given a three month suspended sentence for 24 months for offensive words.
