$500 fine for crash which left rider with spinal injuries
A taxi driver who knocked a motorcyclist off his bike, leaving him with serious spinal injuries and temporary paralysis, has been fined $500.
Randall Woolridge, 56, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention at Magistrates' Court yesterday.
According to court documents, the incident happened on July 7, 2007 around 5.14 p.m. when Woolridge was driving his cab west near "Shelly Bay stretch" on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish.
Victim Jahmahi Idread Lewis was travelling in the opposite direction, when the taxi turned right onto the trail to the Railway Museum. This took it into the path of the cycle and a collision ensued, resulting in Mr. Lewis' spinal injuries.
Woolridge, of Kiskadee Lane, Sandys, told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo: "The charge of due care and attention is not reflective of the care I took on this occasion and have been using for the last 40 years. I did take all reasonable care."
