Pair deny machete charges

Two 16-year-old boys appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with possession of a machete.

One of the boys was also charged with possession of brass knuckles. Clarke Fox of Happy Valley Lane, Pembroke, and Geoffrey Scott Willoughby of Southcourt, Paget, were arrested on Sunday for the alleged offence.

The pair were charged with having in their possession a bladed article, namely a 21.5 inch machete on Cavendish Road, Pembroke.

Fox was solely charged with possession of brass knuckles in a public place and wilfully obstructing a Police officer. Both defendants pleaded not guilty. Fox and Willoughby, represented by Elizabeth Christopher and Mark Pettingill, were given $3,000 bail to reappear in court February 28.

Man denies burglary charge

A Pembroke man denied entering a house as a burglar, claiming he was in prison at the time of the alleged offence. Neville James Woods of Curving Avenue, pleaded not guilty to entering a dwelling on March 9, 2007 in Devonshire.

Yesterday in Magistrates' Court, Woods claimed it wasn't him because he had been incarcerated. The 40-year old was given $2,000 bail and will appear in court for trial March 5.

Seven burglaries over the weekend

Over the weekend, two people were arrested on suspicion on impaired driving. There were seven reported burglaries, four in Pembroke, three in Warwick.

There were also 20 reported damage-only road traffic collisions, nine reported road traffic collisions resulting in injury and four stolen vehicles.

Police attended a reported burglary at a Harbour Road home on Sunday where the burglar made away with cash.

Around 1.20 p.m., officers attended the Warwick residence where the complainants said between 7.30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 a.m. on Sunday, a culprit gained entry to their home and took a quantity of cash.
