A 5.5 earthquake struck the Ontario/Quebec region this afternoon.

The initial quake hit the area at 1.41 p.m., according to the United States Geological Survey.

The strongest tremors were said to be experienced in Ottawa and its immediate vicinity, with effects also felt in Michigan and New York.
