Four arrested after man injured in street attack

Four men were arrested after a 26-year-old Pembroke man was attacked and seriously injured on Sunday night at the junction of Reid Street and Burnaby Street.

The man suffered lacerations to his face, right arm and body, and was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. However his injuries were not life threatening and yesterday he was released from hospital.

After initially being alerted to a disturbance at the junction of Reid Street and Washington Lane, officers could not find the disturbance.

However, after viewing the CCTV cameras at Police Headquarters, they saw a group of men attacking a man at the junction of Reid Street and Burnaby Street. When the Police arrived on the scene, the four men, a 21-year-old Southampton man, a 23-year-old Warwick man and two 20-year-old men from Southampton, tried to escape.

They were surrounded by Police cars, however, and were arrested, transported to the Hamilton Police Station and detained.

A bladed weapon was recovered near the scene of the incident. The injured man has refused to make a formal complaint, however inquiries into this matter are ongoing.
