Man causes terror on pier
A violent, knife wielding young man caused fear at the Hamilton Ferry Terminal yesterday.
Shortly before 6 p.m. the young man stalked down Queen Street yelling at people, a female witness recounted to The Royal Gazette yesterday.
The man, who appeared to be in his late teens, was screaming profanities and lunging at members of the public as he made his way to the terminal.
The young professional, who did not wished to be named, was walking behind the angry youth when she saw him pounce on a man in a suit, knocking him to the ground, and yelled "You f***ing f****" while holding a knife to the man's chest.
She said the erratic behaviour continued as the angry youth stalked along the pier, yelling random profanities and pointing his knife at a cross-section of the community.
He pushed his way passed customers and made his way on to the dock where a Dockyard Ferry was preparing to berth. Before the ferry had even secured its lines the man jumped on board.
"I asked ferry workers 'you won't let him on while we go to Somerset?'" she said. "And they told me they would not. But then people came off the ferry and others got on. They got on to the same ferry where this man was!"
The man continued to scream profanities and Police were called. After an extensive and lengthy search the man was removed, handcuffed, from the ferry.
The young female said: "It was quite dramatic and scary!"
At press time Police confirmed that there was a disturbance at the Hamilton ferry dock and that a man had been arrested. They said no one was injured and enquires into the matter is on going.
