Pamplin in court, with his wife at his side

The husband of Deputy Opposition Leader Patricia Gordon-Pamplin claims he has receipts that will prove where almost $100,000 seized by Police in New Jersey came from.

Dennis Pamplin, 57, was arrested on August 28 in Chatham, New Jersey, along with two other men, Ronald Ellis, a 38-year old Bermudian, and Mark Small, 40, of New York, on suspicion of money laundering and conspiracy.

Pamplin appeared in a Morristown, New Jersey court yesterday along with his co-accused.

According to reports from the Daily Record in Chatham, his lawyer, Paul Bergrin, told the court his client has financial documentation to prove he legally had more than $98,000 in his possession to buy music equipment.

His wife, Mrs. Gordon-Pamplin, attended the hearing.

Mr. Bergrin said Pamplin, the owner of Island Construction Services Ltd, will turn over financial records and receipts that show he withdrew the money from a bank in England.

Reports from New Jersey said late last month, officers received reports that two Chevrolet sport vehicles were involved in a high-speed chase.

When stopped, Small and Ellis ran away before being caught. The men accused each other of robbery when Officer Larry Dillon approached them.

The money, totalling more than $98,000, was sniffed by a narcotics dog revealing there was drug residue. Police called it "a possible drug deal gone wrong".
