Police make arrest in murder investigation

A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the Christmas Day and Boxing Day shootings at a home understood to be owned by Government MP Glenn Blakeney.

The arrest was made in the early hours of yesterday morning in Spanish Point after Police executed a search warrant.

The Royal Gazette also understands that a 26-year-old Pembroke man who was arrested at the same residence on suspicion of possession of a drugs with intent to supply is Mr. Blakeney's son.

Mr. Blakeney, who owns radio station HOTT 107.5, did not return calls yesterday and Police would not comment on Mr. Blakeney's alleged connection with the premises where the arrests were made.

The Royal Gazette understands the arrests were made as part of Operation Safer Streets, which was launched in early January.

Its launch is a direct response to the violence that unfolded in the early hours of Christmas Day when Jakai Harford, 24, was shot in the shoulder in the Camp Hill area of Southampton. Around 9 p.m. on Boxing Day Aquil Richardson, 30, was murdered and Levar Smith, 25, shot in the legs — again in Camp Hill. Few details about the shootings have been made public by the Police. They have made several arrests but are yet to charge anyone.

Inquiries into the Christmas and Boxing Day shootings continue and anyone with any information about these incidents are encouraged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers Hotline on 1-800-623-8477.
