Fine for swearing at the Police

A 39-year-old man pleaded guilty to using offensive words and resisting arrest when he appeared in Magistrates' Court.

The court heard from Crown counsel Maria Sofianos that on Saturday, Police were on patrol outside Cafe Cairo when they noticed Neville Richardson, of Happy Valley Road, Pembroke, acting in a threatening way towards another person.

When Police approached Richardson he yelled: "F*** you, you can't tell me nothing you don't even have f****ing stripes!"

As Police attempted to arrest him, he violently resisted arrest.

Once taken to Police station, he continued with his aggressive behaviour and was yelling to Police officers at the station: "I have a bullet for you! I'm gonna shoot you, you, you and you and your f***ing family!"

The next day Simmons apologised to Police saying the behaviour was not like him and he never behaved in that manner.

When asked by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner if he had anything to say Richardson said: "I am sorry your honour for my behaviour. I just found out that I was not the father of my child and I drank too much."

Mr. Warner warned Richardson of the severity of his verbal threats and told him that since he apologised to the officers the next day and explained that he was intoxicated he will take that into consideration.

He told Richardson that if he were not in an inebriated state he would have sent him to prison.

Richardson was fined $500 for offensive words, $500 for resisting arrest and six months imprisonment suspended for 24 months.

Stolen goods found in taxi

A 29-year-old man admitted to having stolen goods in his possession when he appeared in Magistrates' Court.

The court heard from Crown counsel Maria Sofianos that early last Thursday morning, Kemo Simmons, of Cox's Hill, Pembroke, broke into a Stovell Lane, Pembroke, home and stole a Dell laptop and a Samsung TV.

Later that afternoon Police stopped Simmons while he was driving a taxi and arrested him and seized the stolen items which were inside the taxi.

While at the Police station, Simmons admitted to having the items but said that he brought them from a drug addict.

When Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked him if he had anything to say, Simmons said: "Sorry for inconveniencing the courts. I have two young children and I wonder if the court could give me community service."

He added: "I'm currently taking care of my elderly grandmother [full time]."

Simmons has previous convictions of a different nature.

This matter was adjourned to April 24 pending a social inquiry report.
