Motorcycle rider injured

A 32-year-old suffered serious injuries after he lost control of his bike and skid under a car early Saturday morning.

The man was travelling west at the junction of North Shore Road and Sleepy Hollow Drive in Hamilton Parish when he lost control of his auxiliary cycle while trying to round a bend.

He collided with a car that was travelling in the opposite direction and was stuck, along with his cycle, under the car.

Police officers and members of the public at the scene attempted to free the man from under the car, but were unsuccessful until the Bermuda Fire Service EMTs arrived a short time later and were able to extricate the victim.

He was initially treated at the scene and then rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of a fractured pelvis, right arm and left leg. At press time yesterday he was still in the hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the car, a 35-year-old Pembroke woman, was not injured. A Police press officer thanked members of the public who attempted to free the victim before paramedics arrived.

The car received front end damage and the auxiliary cycle was extensively damaged as a result.

Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for witnesses.
