The unsolved murders
The unsolved murders:
MARCUS GIBBINGS, 32, was found stabbed to death inside a Devonshire apartment on October 26, 2006. There were signs of a struggle at the residence on Derwent Road. Mr. Gibbings was a native of Trinidad and worked in Bermuda for IT company CCS. Bermuda Police arrested a woman in connection with the crime but she was never charged with murder and was eventually released. Although 90 people have been questioned in the Gibbings murder case police have been unable to produce enough evidence to criminally charge any specific suspect with homicide.
JASON LIGHTBOURN, 18, was shot and killed while behind the wheel of a car on Ord Road in Paget on July 23, 2006. Two people were arrested in connection with the crime, but they were eventually released. No one has been charged with homicide in this case. Police have poured many resources into the investigation, but claim to be road blocked by a lack of participation from potential witnesses. Chief Inspector Tracey Adams said at the time: "We are significantly hindered from progressing as a result of information that is being withheld, despite our persistence to seek the truth." It's been speculated that the murder is gang related. There was also a machete attack on the same night Mr. Lightbourne was killed. That victim survived.
SHAUNDAE JONES, 20, was gunned down at point blank range in Dockyard on April 27, 2003. He was a student at Bermuda College. The motive behind his killing is unclear, but Mr. Jones was a witness in the murder trial of Tekle Zion Mallory and his best friend, Jahni Bean was the defendant. At the time of the shooting Mr. Jones and his friends had just left Club Malabar when someone rushed up to the car he was in and pulled the trigger. The victim's mother Marsha Jones said: "I just can't see any more children die. I feel like all of these children are mine, and I'm not talking about children from Warwick, Southampton or Somerset. I'm talking about everywhere."
GLEN WOLFE, 43, was found dead in his Sandy's Parish home on Heathcote Hill on November 17, 1999. His body was thought to be lying there for several days before the crime was uncovered. Days later Police raided Studio 55 on Reid Street during an event known as Gay Night. Mr. Woffle was openly homosexual. Revellers in the club on the night of the raid believe police were looking for a murderer when they came inside, but no arrests were made during the sweep. Mr. Wolffe had previous criminal convictions for attempted murder of a former lover and for inappropriately touching a schoolboy.
MARGERY WADE, 34, was sexually assaulted inside her Hamilton apartment and killed with a blow to the head from a wooden plank. Her body was found March 5, 1975 still inside the apartment on Laffan Street. Miss Wade was a schoolteacher from England who taught at the Berkeley Institute. Students at the school were questioned in connection with the crime and that created a political firestorm. Premier Sir Edward Richards ultimately defended the police action. At the height of the investigation a forensic scientist from Britain's Home Office was brought in, but it didn't help. The case remains unsolved.
