DAB approves extended care unit at Westmeath
two-storey expansion of the Westmeath Rest Home, on Pitts Bay Road in Hamilton.
In granting planning permission, the DAB ruled Westmeath must provide for landscaping as well as parking nad manoeuvring space for 14 cars and 14 motorcycles.
The project is intended to provide full nursing and extended care for residents, said spokesman Nicholas Dill. Westmeath now offers accommodation suitable to those who are able to get around on their own.
The addition will bring Westmeath's room compliment up to 47.
Work on the new wing is expected to start early in the new year, with Westmeath kicking off a fundraising drive to help defray construction costs, said Mr. Dill.
Meanwhile Frascati Hotel Co. Ltd. has been granted permission to upgrade its spa facilities and construct a new indoor pool at its Cambridge Beaches hotel at 30 Kings Point Road in Somerset Parish.
The development is a case of Cambridge Beaches putting its money where its mouth is, managing director Michael Winfield told The Royal Gazette .
The project however is still in the discussion stage and no final decision to proceed has been made.
Plans call for a 9,000 square-foot two-storey expansion of an existing cottage, housing an indoor pool, gymnasium, exercise room, whirlpool, and health spa.
The expansion also provides for a juice bar and six treatment rooms, said Mr.
Winfield.
"Collective Bermuda has been moaning about the lack of visitors during the off season,'' he said. "Part of the problem is there's nothing for them to do when the weather turns bad.
"We expect this will offer the broadest range of facilities around, making us one of the premiere health clubs on the Island.'' The DAB also granted approval in principle to Mr. Robert Lewis to proceed with an expansion at Hillview, Cut Road, in St. George.
The expansion is to include an additional eight apartment units, a pool, and a pavilion.
