Friday with the support of the Opposition.

Due to the "challenges'' in getting and keeping Census enumerators, the deadline for the completion of all evaluations has been extended for one month to August 31.

Acting Finance Minister Alex Scott said more than 300 census areas had been assigned and between 80 and 100 were not yet assigned.

Some enumerators have handled two or three census areas since May and a batch of newly trained enumerators would join the ranks today, he added.

Mr. Scott said residents would see a "robust publicity campaign'' during this month and August as the Census Department made its final push to see how many people were in Bermuda on May 20.

Shadow Finance Minister Grant Gibbons expressed his support for the additional month but questioned Mr. Scott about a report which stated enumerators had not been paid on time for their services.

Mr. Scott promised he would look into the matter, thanking Dr. Gibbons for the "heads-up''.

And the "legal anomaly'' of leaving the words "Issued under the Bermuda Monetary Authority'' off the $2, $20 and $100 denominations of local money since 1992 has been corrected.

The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Currency Forms and Designs, Etc.) Validation Act is a "technical issue'', said Mr. Scott.

The problem was found by the Attorney General's Chambers, he added.

Mr. Scott said there was some concern the difference between those bills and the properly styled $5, $10, and $50 bills would become a problem for validation. The Opposition supported the change.
