Mr. David Critchley, who retired as Health and Social Services Permanent Secretary in 1987, died in Canada in September. He was 68.

St. George's South MP Mrs. Grace Bell (UBP) asked that condolences be sent to the family of the "long-serving civil servant.'' MPs on both sides of the House joined in.

Mrs. Bell also asked that condolences be sent to the family of Mr. George Sheehan of Massachusetts, a runner who frequently visited the Island to race and conduct seminars at Elbow Beach Hotel. He died recently at age 74.

Tourism Minister the Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge praised Sir John Moore, a former owner of Elbow Beach Hotel who died recently in England. The House will send condolences to his family.

Works and Engineering Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons asked that condolences be sent to the families of Mr. Clarence (Jimmy) Bean, well-known banker Mr.

Johnny Littlejohn of Smith's North, and Mrs. Jean Hollis, the mother of former Senator Mr. Wendell Hollis.

Hamilton East MP Mr. Trevor Woolridge (PLP) sent condolences to the family of Mrs. Marjorie Furbert of Hamilton Parish, who died recently. Community and Cultural Affairs Minister the Hon. Wayne Furbert , who sang at Mrs. Furbert's funeral, asked to be associated with Mr. Woolridge's remarks.

Health and Social Services Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness sent condolences to the family of Mrs. Thalia (Tilly) Jones, who was well-known in the community. He also asked that a letter of condolence be sent to Mrs. Betty Hollinsid, who recently lost her mother, Mrs. Edith A. Brown.

Transport Minister the Hon. Maxwell Burgess sent condolences to the family of Mrs. Louise Lathan of Hamilton Parish.

Delegated Affairs Minister the Hon. Ann Cartwright DeCouto sent condolences to Ms Eulyn James, who recently lost her mother, Mrs. Amy Fowler. She also asked that a letter be sent to the family of Mr. Ralph Leonard Gauntlett, Jr., who died recently age 63.

There were also numerous congratulatory messages sent on the opening day of Parliament.

St. George's North MP Ms Jennifer Smith (PLP) sent congratulations to Miss Bermuda Islands Kellie Hall and Bermuda College student Ms Lee Ann Liles, a semi-finalist in recent photography competitions.

Youth and Sport Minister the Hon. Pamela Gordon congratulated the Bermuda Pacers Track Club and its president Mrs. Judith Simmons. The club, which has been growing rapidly and helping young people, held a banquet on Saturday.

Shadow Youth and Sport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown echoed Ms Gordon's remarks, but said he hoped Government would soon "see fit'' to provide the Pacers with "a decent National Stadium''.

Mr. Walter Lister congratulated the Women's Resource Centre, which hosted a recent banquet at which US Congressman Mrs. Maxine Waters spoke.

Mr. Edness congratulated Mrs. Patricia Holder, the headmistress of Warwick Secondary School, on the school's award night on Thursday. He made special mention of Miss Ana Correia, who took home numerous awards. He also congratulated Mrs. Susan Boyd, the new chairperson of the Women's Resource Centre.

Hamilton East MP Ms Renee Webb congratulated Berkeley Institute students who received awards in a recent ceremony at which she spoke. She also congratulated the school's new headmistress.

St. George's North MP Mr. Leon (Jimmy) Williams congratulated the principal of East End Primary School for an excellent evening on Thursday at which he was the guest reader. Mr. Williams also congratulated Mr. Kevin Watson of St.

George's, who runs a karate club and helps young people.

Opposition Whip Mr. Stanley Lowe offered congratulations to newly-elected House Speaker the Hon. Ernest DeCouto and newly-elected Canadian Prime Minister Mr. Jean Chretien. Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan also congratulated the two men.

Mr. Burgess congratulated Warwick Academy and its students on their recent awards night.

Sandys North MP Mr. Dennis Lister congratulated Mr. Freddie Evans, a high school teacher who organised a basketball camp for young people this summer.

Government Whip Mr. John Barritt congratulated the rector of St. John's Church in Pembroke, who invited all MPs to attend a service a week ago to prepare for the new session of Parliament.
