received a six percent wage increase over two years.

A new agreement between the BIU and the Bermuda Hospitals Board is to be signed at the hospital this morning.

The deal provides for a 3.5 percent wage hike in the first year and a 2.5 percent increase in the second, hospital executive director Mr. Hume Martin confirmed last night.

The agreement covers 388 BIU workers at the hospital, which has 1,122 employees in total.

The agreement was based on the award of arbitrator Mr. William Hobgood, who met with the two sides and assessors Mr. Milton Scott and Mr. Louis Grant on September 16.

Earlier, Labour Ministry mediation failed to prompt an agreement. The old contract expired on October 5, 1992.
