Vaucrosson is expected to walk through the gates of Westgate on Thursday, December 12. He was sentenced on January 12 this year.

However he will be faced by more legal battles -- including a writ issued yesterday against him by the Bank of Bermuda.

Last night his wife, Margaret, said: "He is in good spirits and of course he is looking forward to coming home.

"The time in prison has given him time to concentrate on himself, which is what he has done.'' Vaucrosson was convicted at the Supreme Court in December, last year, of stealing nearly $400,000 from the estate of jour nalist Percy Ball, who died in 1987.

Before he was sentenced, his defence team said a jail term could be a death sentence for Vaucrosson who needed special treatment and food because of severe heart, lung and kidney diseases.

Mrs. Vaucrosson said: "He has lost a lot of weight. In adversity there is good fortune. Charles will be on parole when he is released and he has no immediate plans except to start winding up his business, that is his first priority. He has officially retired.'' She added: "We are all looking forward to welcoming Charles home and he is really looking forward to coming home.''
