when it becomes completely private.

According to a Press statement released yesterday by the school's principal Mr. Bernard Beacroft, "very strong parental interest at this level'' has been expressed.

And newly-elected chairman of Warwick's Board of Governors, Dr. Walwyn Hughes told The Royal Gazette the school has received "far more'' primary one entry applications than it can accommodate.

"One primary one class, probably even two, will not be enough,'' Dr. Hughes said, adding there has been a shift in the school population.

In his statement Mr. Beacroft said: "The board expects to have 200 pupils in the primary school and 315 pupils in the secondary school in September this year.

"The shift in the enrolment pattern has necessitated the reduction of the secondary school faculty by five teachers and an increase in the primary school staffing by four teachers.

"Original plans calling for a three-form entry into the secondary school remain in being and 75 places will be offered in Secondary 1 in the coming academic year.

"At this time there will also be 25 new places each at the Primary Six and the Primary Seven levels.'' He added that staff vacancies will be advertised shortly.

Mr. Beacroft also said the board has agreed in principle to establish a sixth form programme at Warwick Academy.

But the plan will not be implemented immediately, he added.

Plans for the full privatisation of the school were progressing on schedule and they were the subject of a board briefing to the teaching staff earlier this month, Mr. Beacroft said.

In addition to Dr. Hughes replacing King Edward VII Memorial Hospital's chief of medicine, Dr. John Patton, as board chairman, other new board members named included Sen. Gary Pitman as deputy chairman, Mrs. Barbara Fullerton, Mr. Ted Gauntlet, Dr. Thomas James, Mr. Stephen Kempe, Mr. Blake Marshall, Dr. Betram Ross, Mr. Anthony Smith, Mrs. Karen Williams-Smith and Sen. Yvette Swan.
