Lawyer Mr. Archie Warner appealed to Mr. Justice Ward for a speedy trial date for Smith, who is being held in custody. The Chief Justice remanded Smith over to February 3 for mention.

A man charged in the parasailing death of an American tourist pleaded not guilty to one charge of manslaughter and one charge of causing death by reckless driving of a powercraft.

Jason Wade Edler of Queen Street, St. George's, was the driver of a boat owned by St. George's Parasailing and Watersports when 54-year-old Frank Westendorf of Virginia fell nearly 100 feet to his death on July 5.

Edler, represented by counsel Philip Perinchief, heads back to court on December 9 for trial.

Also appearing for arraignment yesterday was Kirk Orlando Mundy, charged with conspiring to rob the Bank of Butterfield.

Mundy, 20, appeared with co-accused Omar Avery, 24, and Harron Evans, 20, both who are currently out on bail. The three will appear again on February 3.

Two men pleaded not guilty to the July 6 murder of a 28-year-old father of two.

Teiko Furbert and Sheldon Franks are charged together in the slaying of James Caines, who was shot three times in the head while standing in a house along Curving Avenue.

Mortally wounded, Caines managed to stagger a quarter mile to his mother's home on Union Street, collapsing in her arms. He was pronounced dead on arrival at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Franks, represented by counsel Mark Pettingill, and Furbert, represented by Archie Warner, are back in court on February 3 for mention.

Two other men charged with the robbery, wounding, and attempted murder of cab driver Leon Trott also appeared before Mr. Justice Ward to plead not guilty to a four-count indictment.

Stedman Clarke and Vincent Burch are alleged to have attacked the cabbie on Spetember 1, slashing his throat with a knife and robbing him of $270.

Burch, represented by Mr. Pettingill, is presently out on bail while Clarke, represented by counsel Elizabeth Christopher, is being held in custody. Both return to court for a February 3 mention.

A man charged with breaking into a Pembroke home on the night of September 13 and attacking its occupant with a machete pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and one count of burglary.

Wayne Eugene Smith, address unknown, however pleaded not guilty to one count of stealing from a dwelling house and putting the occupant in fear, and break and enter.

Smith, represented by Mr. Warner, returns to court on December 9 for sentencing.
