Mario G. DeCouto, of Verdmont Road, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified on July 16 last year. Prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby said Police saw DeCouto, who they knew to be off the road for a year, driving at around 3.30 a.m. that day. When he was stopped, DeCouto told Police he thought his lawyer "got half time'' for him.

But Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said: "I doubt that your lawyer told you that. Lawyers just don't get half time for you, then tell you.

"You have to stand in front of a magistrate and the magistrate tells you that you get half time. And most people know for anything under 12 months you don't get half time off.'' Mr. Francis fined DeCouto $300 and took him off the road for another 12 months.
