sanctuary at its Hamilton site.

The Church received planning permission from the Development Applications Board to build a main sanctuary with 1,200 seats and an underground parking lot. Rev. Goodwin C. Smith, pastor of the Church, said the new building would have a balcony, a choir room and office space. It will be used for church services, funerals and weddings.

Since 1978, the main hall has been used for these ceremonies, but after construction it will be available for community use, receptions and concerts.

The DAB approved the application with several conditions. The entire site, on Dundonald Street, must be landscaped within three months after the issuance of a use and occupancy permit.

All trees which are to be retained must be protected with fencing and all destroyed trees must be replaced.

The sanctuary is the last phase in a series of Church developments including an educational and daycare centre.

"It will bring to realisation our dream for a complete complex,'' said the Rev. Smith.

Meanwhile, the Ocean View Golf Course has received planning permission to build a practice fairway and erect barrier netting.

This will be part of the extensive improvements going on at the Devonshire golf course.

The application, received on May 14, was approved on condition that the Railway trail boundary adjacent to the fairway be landscaped and the netting hidden by trees.

Construction at the site is expected to be completed by mid-October. A proposed stone cutting operation at Wilkinson's Quarry on Coney Island Road has also been approved by the DAB.

Permission was granted to Wilkinson Estates Limited on the condition that each new phase of development not begin until the previous one has been completed in a satisfactory manner.

Landscaping of all ledges shall be undertaken within six months of their completion and planted with creeping fig.

The area approved for quarrying must be demarcated by a fence to protect the adjacent woodland reserve area and the quarry operator will have to provide up-to-date surveys of levels and areas of working reached every six months.

Quarry operations will be limited to the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

An application from Mr. Charles Burgess to renovate a building was approved by the DAB.

The Court Street building will be redesigned to include a retail area, restaurant, additional bar and a new deli.

Permission was granted on the condition that all work comply with the Bermuda Building Code, the Chief Fire Officer and the Chief Environmental Health Officer.
