College president George Cook and board chairman Randolph Horton outlined highlights of the College's year-long celebrations at a Press conference yesterday.

Governor Thorold Masefield, Premier Jennifer Smith, and other local dignitaries will participate in the July 1 ceremony which will include performances by the National Dance Theatre of Bermuda and a candle-lighting ceremony.

Following these celebrations there will be a cocktail party where all will raise a toast to the future success of the College.

The College will also be featured in a supplement of The Royal Gazette on Thursday and a 30-minute programme entitled "Going for Gold -- the next 25 years'' will air on ZBM TV-9 on July 5 and VSB TV-11 on July 8.

A foundation of a Bermuda College Alumni Association will also mark the anniversary of the College. There will be a cocktail reception later in the year to honour the Bermuda College Alumni In September, a special dinner and dance will be held for all current and former members of faculty and staff. Tribute will be paid to the men and women whose wisdom and dedication have carried the College through its first 25 years.

The College will also host two international conferences during its anniversary year.

"The Future of Mathematics in Business'' is from October 20 to 23. The second International Conference on Caribbean Literature will be held November 3 to 5.

Dr. Cook explained the aim of the College over the next five to six years is to change its status so that four-year degree programmes will be available in areas of study relevant to Bermuda.

Examples of these areas are tourism and hospitality, insurance, international business, teacher training, information technology and marine and environmental science.

Such degree programmes will be offered in association with other institutions overseas.

Dr. Cook said the College had come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1974: "We've earned our silver and now we are going for the gold.''
