No parking is allowed on the square or at Ordnance Island, but Penno's Wharf, Tiger Bay, Wellington Park, Belco car park and streets to the north of York Street have been designated parking areas for this evening.

Police said yesterday that clearly marked parking restrictions will be in effect from 5 p.m. today until 1 a.m. tomorrow. And Water Street will be closed to all traffic as of 6 p.m. Police will be assisting in the smooth flow of traffic.

A Police spokesperson added: "While it is not our intention to spoil New Year's Eve for anyone, we must remind the public that drinking alcoholic beverages in a public place, such as the Town Square, is unlawful. There will be plenty of bars and licenced premises open to accommodate those wishing to have a New Year's drink''.
